The ABC’s of our Classroom!
A – Agenda – Students are expected to purchase an agenda through GCCAS. Students will use this agenda daily for homework and behavior, as well as parent/teacher communication.
B- Behavior Chart – Students start each day on green on the behavior chart, they may move up the chart for positive behavior to blue. They may also move down the chart when they need to make better choices, to yellow and red. Students will fill in their color daily in their agenda and are expected to bring the agenda home and have a parent or guardian sign it, daily.
C- Communication - Communication is key, there are many ways to reach me, either by email, [email protected], on the website, or by phone.
D- Donors Choose – Throughout the year I will be creating Donors Choose projects that give parents a chance to give back. Last year we raised over 1,200 dollars to purchase three new iPads for students.
E- Expectations – Please read through the rules and expectations with your student.
F- Friday Folder – On Friday students will bring home a laminated manila folder with all of their graded work for the week, as well as a homework packet. This folder is due back, empty, on Monday, signed by a parent for the corresponding week.
G- Graded Work – Graded work comes home with students each week in the “Friday Folder”.
H- Hoot Loot - students may earn classroom money called “Hoot Loot” that they may spend on Fridays at the “Hoot Loot” Store.
I – Involvement – Parent involvement is much appreciated in the classroom for special projects and clerical jobs, please contact me if you would like to volunteer!
J- Jobs – Each student will have a classroom job, these jobs are changed once a month.
K- Kindness – The golden rule in second grade and life, “Treat others as you would like to be treated.”
L- Library – Each day students will have a chance to visit the classroom library, students are expected to take proper care of their library books. Students will be reading many books this year and using the Accelerated Reader program to take tests on these books.
M- Marble Jar – Students have a chance to fill their marble jar by completing good deeds as a whole group, such as lining up correctly, or receiving compliments from other teachers. Once the jar is full, students may vote for a special party.
N- Newsletters – A weekly newsletter will be sent home with students in their Friday Folder, in this newsletter you can find spelling words, homework, and other important news.
O- Ordering Books – Scholastic book orders will be sent home monthly. This is a great way for you to purchase books inexpensively and help earn free books for our classroom. When ordering, please pay with a check made to Scholastic Book Orders.
P- Parties – Students may celebrate their birthdays in class, I prefer to have parties in the afternoon at snack time. Contact me for more information.
Q- Quiet Hallways – It is of great importance for your student to remain quite while walking in the hallways. They may earn marbles and Hoot Loot this way, while not disturbing other classes.
R- Related Arts – Students will rotate between P.E., Music, Art and Spanish throughout the week.
S- STEM – Our school adopted the STEM Model of instruction which focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math hands on projects. Each week we will be completing a special STEM project. Ask your child about these projects and see the website for pictures and descriptions.
T- Teamwork – Teamwork is very important in second grade, we will be learning to be good sports and to work as a team.
U- Students are expected to wear their proper uniform to school each day, they should always have their shirts tucked in.
V- Volunteer Hours – Each family is required to complete volunteer hours, please contact me for ways to fulfill this. I can work with you on items you can complete at home, or jobs that need to be done at school.
W- Weekly Homework – Homework is sent home on Friday in the Friday Folder, it is not due back completed until the following Friday.
X, Y, and Z are for – I am eXcited to work with You and Your child this year. Make sure he/she gets plenty of Zzzz’s each night as we have exciting days planned for this year!
